Makerspace on the Move
Mobile Makerspace
When it comes to crafting in the library, I am a big advocate for using what we have. The library I work at has lots of fbaulous crafting materials! So for this proposal, I think the most important aspects of this would to have mobile technology that can be moved from space to space. For my inventory, I chose a simple craft cart, a laptop cart, and some laptops!
We have a 3D printer, Cricut, and other crafting materials, so why not teach lessons on how to use them? The biggest resource we are missing is those laptops and the way to make it mobile. I was a little hesitant to do something so simple for my inventory, but if I would like to propose something like this to administration, this would make the most sense!
Check out my little makerspace proposal below and feel free to let me know what you think!

ReplyDeleteI love your idea of bringing making to your patrons through a mobile makerspace! I also thought about what my library already has to offer, but instead of going the mobile route like you, I imagined a fixed makerspace in a fictional library with plenty of space.
Your idea reminds me of when I was in 4th through 6th grade, and our art teacher didn’t have a classroom but instead brought an “art cart” to us. It was always so exciting when the cart rolled in! Your “Makercart” gives off that same fun and inspiring vibe.
This is such a practical and flexible solution. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful plan. I’m inspired by your creative use of resources.
Hi! I think this is the best way to make use of money in a way that doesn't require you to work around a budget later on! Having access to mobile laptops will not only be beneficial for your makerspace to use the amazing objects you already have (3D printer, cricut, etc.) but also for the library as a whole. Having the ability to be mobile with a computer is always wonderful, and it's even better that it allows you to build onto what you already have available. I also love the mobile workstation you have linked as it's something that will not only benefit people using the makercart, but also the library staff as well for ease of use. I think this is a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteHi, Josie! A mobile makerspace! I never would've thought of that! What would the laptops be used for if all of the actual physical tools would be somewhere else? I feel like having a stockpile of laptops for classes is just a really good thing for a library to have in general! Especially if one ventures into teaching tech classes like how to use Facebook, or LinkedIn. This was such a good idea and an amazing proposal--great job!
ReplyDeleteEDIT: I see how the laptops would be used!! Seriously awesome idea!!
