Let's Get This Party Started!
Welcome to The Programming Post
Hi everyone! I am so excited to get started and blog my way through this class and beyond. Here are a couple answers as to why I am here:
Why Blogger?
I am familiar with Blogger and have even made one before! Although I have some Blogger tools under my belt, the class I made the blog for was much more focused on the readings and content of the class than the blog making. I am also a certified "Google Girly" and love that I can access all I need through one account. I think using Blogger this time around will really let me hone in on those skills I barely got to learn!
PLN Development and Better Serving Patrons
Being a young professional with little experience, I have found that a key to some of my success in the programming world, is having lots of connections. I love to hear what others can do in their libraires and see how I can adapt it to better serve my patrons. I tried to choose a name that I could work with beyond this class as I find that this blog could be a great way to connect with others in the field. I love other blogs like JBrary and Storytime Katie, so why not start my own? Since I work with ages 0-17 there is so much to find out there, but for me, how can I bring it all back into one place? This is how!
Thank you all for stopping by. I am looking forward to seeing all of the creative work our class can do!

ReplyDeleteFirst, I love your blog title, and the photo of the party cat made me smile! I’m a big cat lover myself. I have a cat named Reptar who is 18 years old, and his (adopted) sister crossed the rainbow bridge two years ago at the age of 17. I also cat-sit from time to time and have just finished watching over a momma cat and her six kittens — it was quite an adventure!
ReplyDeleteI admire that you’re a “Google Girly” and comfortable navigating those tools. That’s an area I need to embrace more. Technology doesn’t come naturally to me, but I know it’s such an important skill, so I’m working on it.
I agree that connections are key in this field. I also love seeing what other librarians are doing with their programming and finding ways to adapt those ideas for my patrons. Honestly, blogging intimidates me a bit, and I’m not sure if I've chosen the best platform for this assignment, but if not, it will still be a valuable learning experience.
I took LIS 7523 (Internet Fundamentals and Design), which gave me my first experience coding a website. I enjoyed it and was proud of what I created! I haven’t maintained it, but I plan to revisit it after graduation.
You should continue your blog beyond this class — I’d love to follow it and see what creative ideas you share!
Hi Josie!
ReplyDeleteI am also a lover of Blogger. It is just so easy! Plus the built-in themes that they offer are sleek and make it simply effortless to put together a presentable blog. Your profile pic is so cute--I should do one with my cat, too! If he'd let me hold him long enough--my son a squirrelly fellow :"( . Anyways, I love that you're already immersed in the blogging world. I feel like it's something that I've never explored, but I'm very interested in dipping my toes into now! If you want to build up you PLN further, ALA has awesome email blasts you can join for various branches such as YA, youth, etc--those are a great way to find some folks! Great job on your blog!
