Curating Hot Dog History
We're not just grilling anymore
Curating resources on any topic has been a big passion of mine during my time in the LIS field. Hot dogs though, have always been my passion.
For this curation assignment, I chose Padlet, Symbaloo, and Wakelet. I kind of chose them at random, thinking it would be best to test them out, that way I get a really good sense of how it all works!
Padlet was by far my favorite. I have used this for classes before, but never actually used it to put information in so that was really fun. I think this one was great for first time users.
Wakelet wasn't bad! The organization was easy and the ability to put different media into different sections was cool!
Symbaloo was weird to me! I really did not like the ads popping up everywhere. That was a big turn off for me in terms of using it. In the articles for this week, we talked a lot about how to not just info dump. I feel like Symbaloo is just a place to info dump. No good ways to make it look nice and way too much room for way too much information.
Overall, Padlet had it all for me!

I had similar views and results. I tried Padlet also because of the experience in some of the MLIS courses but wanting to see it from the creator side. And Padlet ended up my favorite too! Your outcome with Symbaloo was the same as mine with Scoop. It lacked a way to sort or group so it seemed like a jumble of too much information. I like how you related it to one of our first assignments and called it an info dump. Spot on! And I love the theme of your resources! I also chose a related food passion for some of mine - PICKLES!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your assessments, and as a viewer, Padlet was my favorite as well. I love that you went with "history of hot dogs"; that was why I chose yours to respond to. I think that these kinds of sites could be great for professional and personal resources; I can envision creating something with, say, booklists for my public library. The visual snippet before clicking into a specific article/website helps you feel prepared and have an idea of the type of resource you are about to view.
